Through a five-year investment plan and exclusive team, promote energy transformation

The goal is to accelerate global shipping, inland and logistics operations to decarbonise

Important Commitments to Develop Energy Saving and Energy Efficiency Improvement Solutions

Dafei Group announced last Sunday the establishment of an energy special fund, which plans to invest 1.5 billion US dollars within five years to accelerate the energy transformation and reach the net zero carbon emission target by 2050.

special fund will invest in supporting the industrial production of new fuels and developing low-carbon emission transportation solutions covering all business segments of the group (sea, land and air freight; Port and logistics services; Office). The special fund will also cooperate extensively with large companies, small and medium-sized enterprises, start-ups, academic and scientific circles to jointly support and develop global innovation platforms.

Rudolf Sade, Chairman and CEO of Dafei Group, said: "Dafei Group has been actively involved in environmental protection for many years. Environmental protection is not only my personal belief, but also the core of Dafei Group's strategy. However, in the face of the urgent climate change situation, we have the responsibility to increase our participation and speed up our actions. Through the establishment of this fund, we can invest heavily in innovative projects and promote the decarbonization of our business. We have mobilized the necessary resources to accelerate the energy transformation of Dafei Group and the entire shipping and logistics industry."

Energy Special Fund Focuses on Future Energy and Transportation Solutions "Four Key Tasks"

The Energy Special Fund will invest in innovative projects to ensure renewable energy supply, explore innovative solutions and design examples, and achieve the entire Dafei Group's ambitious decarbonization goals.

Mission 1: Support the development and production of renewable combustion

Dafei Group has begun to actively respond to climate change, using liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a transitional marine fuel.

The purpose of the special fund includes:(a) to promote the construction of industrial production facilities for biofuels, biomethane, electrical methane, carbon-free methanol and other alternative fuels, and (B) to ensure and increase fuel production according to the group's needs, mainly through cooperation with other large industrial groups, investment funds or promising start-ups.

Before the establishment of the special fund, Dafei Group has identified and launched the following projects:

Salamander Project: From 2026 onwards, 11000 tons of second-generation biomethane will be produced every year. Salamander project is part of the strategic partnership with Engie. The goal is to produce 200000 tons of renewable natural gas per year by 2028 to meet the needs of Dafei and the entire shipping industry.

With Titan to develop the biomethane production and liquefaction project: by 2025, the output can reach up to 100000 tons, and by 2027 may achieve production doubling.

As a partner of the French Marseille Forth Port Jupiter 1000 project, Dafei Group plans to continue to cooperate with the project team to develop a mass production method of marine low-carbon electric methane, decarbonize the natural gas network and manage related renewable energy intermittence and other difficult problems to find solutions.

Mission 2: Accelerate decarbonization of port terminals, warehouses and truck fleets

Dafei Group operates more than 700 warehouses and about 50 port terminals worldwide. To enable these facilities to produce enough carbon-free electricity (wind, solar, biomass fuel, hydrogen fuel) is the goal of Dafei Group, which will eventually achieve energy self-sufficiency.

The electrification of in-use port equipment will continue to accelerate within a feasible and effective range. Kihua Logistics, a subsidiary of Dafei Group, aims to achieve all the required electricity from carbon-free generation by 2025. Kiwa Logistics plans to install 1.8 million square meters of photovoltaic panels and expand the use of LED lighting.

Dafei will also implement the truck fleet's energy transformation plan, focusing on the electrification of Kehua logistics trucks.

Key Task 3: Support, Pilot and Launch Frontier Innovation Projects

Dafei has long been actively involved in supporting project, prototype and test development.

in February 2020, Dafei Group joined hands with the Energy Observer to build hydrogen into a future energy source. In the "Energy Observer II" project, the project partners took a new step to jointly design a prototype of a liquid hydrogen-powered regional container ship that meets the latest technology and logistics standards. The project mainly focuses on the development of the practical application of this new technology, so as to realize larger-scale carbon-free shipping, especially short-distance shipping.

Dafei Group also decided to acquire Neoline shares. Neoline is a sail-powered prototype cargo ship scheduled to begin service on transatlantic routes by the end of 2024. Dafei Group also supports SeaOrbiter, an ocean research ship and floating ocean laboratory prototype designed by French architect Jacques Rougerie, and is currently exploring the path to the emerging blue economy.

Dafei Group's R & D team will continue to optimize the design and promotion of large container ships to reduce fuel consumption and develop more effective solutions to help improve the energy efficiency of land, sea and air freight.

Key Task 4: Pursue Energy Saving and Improve the Work Style and Daily Travel Energy Efficiency of Dafei Employees

The fourth key task has three major goals:

By formulating a building energy management plan for Dafei Group's office building, reducing energy consumption (thermal insulation, automation, energy renovation, etc.) and realizing energy diversification (solar panels, seawater circulation).

Encourage employees to commute and business travel to adopt "environmentally friendly travel" solutions, while improving the home office system to avoid unnecessary travel.

Through an all-round environmental protection model, it interacts with the group's 150000 employees and rewards innovative action plans to protect the environment and improve energy efficiency.

The special fund has a $1.5 billion budget and exclusive team support.

The Special Fund has a budget of US $1.5 billion and will be managed by an exclusive team of talented engineers, energy experts, financial analysts and project managers from October 2022. The fund will adopt a cross-functional operation mode, covering all operations and divisions of Dafei Group, and will guide Dafei Group's overall strategy towards developing and accelerating the implementation of low-carbon energy solutions.

Special funds occupying the core position of the innovation ecosystem

Dafei Group has always believed that financial performance is closely related to corporate social responsibility and environmental performance, and is firmly committed to leading the decarbonization of shipping and logistics industries by advocating innovative environmental protection technologies. To this end, Dafei Group actively participates in an innovation ecosystem composed of start-ups, research and development projects, a large number of innovation participants and next-generation tools.

Relying on the active participation of the whole group, the special fund will provide project supporters and industry partners with the necessary information through the group's demand for low-carbon energy, and provide them with financial resources through fund investment to help them promote these solutions as soon as possible.
