Mediterranean shipping continues to layout

According to the Transport Network, Mediterranean Shipping (MSC) has signed a contract with the Norwegian Classification Society (DNV) to deploy new anti-roll auxiliary systems and container ship anti-roll (ARCS) additional signs on about 100 container ships.

It is reported that the two sides are held in Hamburg, the world's largest international maritime exhibition SMM signed the agreement, Mediterranean shipping will become the first company to install anti-roll application, but also the first in the world to implement special tools for ships to avoid the parameters of rolling or shaking caused by the container falling into the sea accident company.

In recent years, the number of container crashing accidents has increased sharply. The World Shipping Council (WSC) report shows that the average number of containers falling into the sea each year in 2020 and 2021 has increased nearly four times compared with 2019. A ship of Mediterranean shipping also suffered losses in the North Sea storm in 2019.

It is said that DNV's new anti-roll auxiliary system, by using a ship-specific hydrodynamic database, can provide the ship with a risk map according to the ship's course, speed, loading conditions and sea conditions, and can help the captain to identify and avoid parameter roll or harmonic swing synchronous resonance roll risk.

The anti-roll auxiliary system can be used independently or integrated into other shipboard systems, including computers and ship weather navigation systems. This is supported by the ARCS class additional mark, which enables shipowners to prove to their customers that they have formulated a strategy to minimize the risk of container loss. Shipowners can meet the requirements of ARCS class additional signs by implementing software solutions that meet the specified functional, technical and performance requirements, especially by adopting strict fluid mechanics methods to calculate risks.

Mediterranean shipping will be implemented on dozens of its newly built, operating and under construction ships, including 1800TEU feeder container ships to 24000TEU container ships.

Mediterranean Shipping's new shipbuilding head Giuseppe Gargiulo said that Mediterranean Shipping has been looking for new solutions to minimize risks. The new anti-roll assist system provides a new tool for the captain and crew to plan ahead. And when you find a potential critical situation to respond.

Order 42 LNG Dual Fuel Power Container Ships

In recent weeks, inflation and uncertainty have led to pressure on global trade, weakening shipping demand and accelerating "normalization" of spot freight rates. Mediterranean shipping is still expanding its capacity.

According to foreign media reports, Mediterranean Shipping has recently ordered 12 16000TEU LNG dual-fuel power container ships in the Yangtze River shipping industry. This order is considered to be the fifth transaction of Mediterranean shipping in 2022, worth 2.16 billion US dollars. It is reported that the cost of each ship is slightly higher than US $0.18 billion and is expected to be delivered between the end of 2024 and 2026.

Although both Yangtze River Shipping and Mediterranean Shipping declined to comment, sources said the ships will be equipped with GTT MARK III membrane fuel tanks, and this is also Yangtze River Shipping's fourth LNG dual-fuel power container ship order.

Mediterranean Shipping has ordered 42 LNG dual-fuel power container ships worth more than US $6 billion this year. Mediterranean Shipping previously ordered six 8000TEU container ships in Hyundai Heavy Industries, each worth US $0.134 billion, which are expected to be delivered in 2025. Construction of 4 7700TEU ships in K Shipbuilding, South Korea, each worth US $0.13 billion, will be delivered in 2024 and 2025. In May, Mediterranean Shipping ordered 10 8000TEU LNG dual-fuel-powered container ships in the new era of shipbuilding, and also ordered 10 14000TEU container ships. It is reported that the cost of 8000TEU is about 0.12 billion US dollars per ship, and the cost of 14000TEU is about 0.16 billion US dollars per ship, with a total value of more than 2.8 billion US dollars. It is planned to be delivered between the end of 2024 and the first quarter of 2026.

Form a new alliance

In addition, on September 6, seven companies including Mediterranean Shipping, Cespan (Seaspan) and Shell jointly established a new alliance. The alliance is committed to exploring and developing green solutions and green technologies aimed at reducing methane emissions from the use of LNG. According to the plan, in the first year of the new alliance, members will explore new technologies to monitor and reduce methane leakage caused by LNG fuel. The alliance said that once these solutions are verified, it plans to apply the relevant solutions to the industry from 2023.

as to why Mediterranean shipping continues to expand its investment and is committed to updating its fleet with "green ships" to reduce its carbon emissions? In fact, all this can be found in the vision of Mediterranean shipping: to continuously invest in stable, stable and sustainable shipping and logistics solutions to connect customers with unlimited opportunities. Support a safe and reliable supply chain, even in difficult times.

"We have a consistent safe, effective and sustainable global freight vision with our customers, so we can establish long-term cooperative relations with our customers."

According to the latest Alphaliner data, Mediterranean Shipping ranks first among the world's top 100 liner companies in capacity, operating 692 ships with a total capacity of 4.4808 million TEU, of which 376 are owned and 316 are chartered. Meanwhile, Mediterranean Shipping holds orders for 114 new ships, about 1.5337 million TEU. This is equivalent to the current capacity of Evergreen Shipping ranked sixth and ONE ranked seventh, respectively, 1.5812 million TEU and 1.5091 million TEU.
