Singapore Port's Container Throughput Hits Record High in 2021

According to data from DNV and Menon Economics as, a Norwegian consulting firm, Singapore Port hit a record high of 37.5 million TEU throughput in 2021, winning the title of the world's leading shipping city for the fifth consecutive year, according to Shipping Network. In addition to the record high throughput, the cargo throughput of Newport last year was 0.599 billion metric tons, the gross tonnage of arriving ships was 2.81 billion metric tons, and the gross tonnage of Singapore-flagged ships was 92.3 million metric tons.


Singapore's Transport Minister and Trade Relations Minister S Iswaran said that Singapore will focus on four major drivers-resilience, digitalization, decarbonization and talent-to make Singapore's shipping industry stronger.

At the same time, Iswaran also said that the Singapore Maritime and Port Authority has provided nearly 3 million US dollars for eight projects, which will realize the digitalization of the maritime industry and will support SGTraDex data sharing among fuel stakeholders.
