According to Shipping Network, Hapg-Lloth (Hapag-Lloyd) announced on September 15 that it has reached an agreement with Italian Spinelli Group to acquire 49% of the shares of the leading Italian logistics company from existing shareholders, while the Spinelli family will continue to hold a majority stake of 51%. The parties agreed not to disclose any financial details of the transaction. The deal is subject to antitrust approval and is expected to close in the next few months.

Spinelli Group, which has been operating in Italy since 1963, is a leading logistics provider dedicated to providing shipping companies with services throughout the container logistics chain, including port terminal services, multimodal transport, container yard and maintenance, warehousing and customs services. The Spinelli Group's competitive advantage is based on the strength of its network and its ability to effectively connect customers to the main Italian ports.

Continued layout to advance its 2023 strategy

Since 2014, after successfully integrating the CSAV, UASC and Nile Dutch, Hapg-Lloyd began to realize its "strategic 2023", while focusing on sustainable development and providing customers with better services.

Hapg-Lloyd is convinced that providing high-quality services is the way forward. To be quality first is its ultimate commitment to customers, but also with the competition's strong distinction.

Unlike Mediterranean Shipping, Maersk and Dafei, Hapburg-Lloyd made it clear that there is no strategic plan to enter the aviation field and develop freight forwarding business. Hapg-Lloyd will focus on the shipping business, not only launching a large-scale shipbuilding and container campaign in 2021, but at the end of August this year, Hapg-Lloyd also launched a fleet upgrade plan worth hundreds of millions of dollars involving more than 150 vessels, and is considering investing in more port infrastructure to expand its advantages in the global competition after the epidemic. It is reported that the Spinelli group acquired by Hapo-Lloth is known by the industry as a terminal operator that controls half of Italy's ports, yards, roads and warehouses.

According to the latest Alphaliner data, Hapburg-Lloyd ranks 5th among the top 100 global liner companies in terms of capacity, operating 251 ships with a total capacity of 1.7653 million TEU, including 120 owned ships and 131 chartered ships. At the same time, Hapg-Lloyd holds 21 newbuilding orders, about 402300 TEU.
