Freight Forwarders See the World: Miscellaneous Terminal Workers in the Port of Mobile Plan to Strike Tuesday

11月22日 14:37:10

Since October 2018, the United States Alabama Port Mobile's unionized grocery terminal workers have not signed a contract with their employers.

dockers planned a strike against grocery stevedores in the Port of Mobile on Tuesday after a month-long mediation process made no progress in securing new contracts. The strike is not expected to affect port container operations.

According to previous reports, the International Dockers Association (ILA)Local 1410 and CSA Equipment Company (mobile port loading and unloading supplier) failed to reach an agreement before midnight on October 20. Since the contract expired in October 2018, union members have been negotiating with CSA for four years.

At present, there are several main problems hindering the agreement, including the union members' desire to gain sole control over the processing of the production line. Union workers cannot tie up vessels handled by non-union stevedores, while non-union workers can tie up vessels handled by CSA. The union is pushing to handle the mooring of all ships unloaded by the CSA. and also seeking retroactive increases in the payment of benefits and pensions since the expiration of the last contract, as well as an increase in the number of designated workers per unit.

Port of Mobile has become "the 11th largest seaport in the United States" since it started container business in the port in 2008 ". It is the main port on the eastern route of the United States. It is the only deep-water port in Mobile, Alabama, USA. The Port of Mobile has 34 deep-water berths. If the dockers strike, it will have a certain impact.

Miscellaneous dockers in Mobile are the only members of the International Dockers Association (ILA) who do not have a formal contract. The ILA has asked its local affiliates to have any pending disputes with port employers this winter before negotiating a new contract that will begin in 2024 and will cover all dock workers in the East and Gulf Coast.
