Freight Forwarders See the World: Establishing Sea and Air Links to Improve Visibility

Germany-based BlueBox Systems and California-based Vizion have established commercial partnerships for different modes of freight visibility providers, aiming to help shippers link air and sea cargo tracking.

When the two companies announced the partnership, they said that BlueBox's air transportation visibility data should be consistent with Vizion's container transportation data. BlueBox is connected to 130 airlines and 1,600 airports, while Vizion has access to 98 percent of container traffic.

In April this year, BlueBox Systems said it would join the Open Visible Network (OVN) data sharing platform.

Open visibility networks connect shippers, logistics service providers, brokers and customers to share data and encourage data sharing among supply chain participants to improve visibility.

BlueBox Systems CEO Martin Schultz (Martin Schulze) said: "We believe that only innovators work together to provide customers with the best technology portfolio, logistics industry digitalization can gain momentum.

"The open visibility network is a core component of this strategy because it brings the best players to the table according to the same principles. We are proud to be a member of BlueBoxAir solutions."

Vizion raised $14 million in a July funding round to redouble efforts to inject existing systems with better shipping data.

A Vizion spokesperson described the relationship as not just a sales channel partnership, but two data-oriented companies whose products complement each other and can use each other's customer network to expand their product range.

"Since COVID, the demand landscape has changed. Providing visibility is mainly in the field of top shippers and third-party logistics providers. The world has changed. People of any size feel that they need better software, which means better data." Vizion CEO said.

Both companies adopt an application programming interface (API)-first approach to customers and partners, preferring this inter-system communication mechanism to traditional message formats such as electronic data exchange (EDI) or e-mail.
