Freight Forwarders Watch the World: Intermarine and Thailand's WeShip Projects to Cooperate

Intermarine, a U. S.-based multi-purpose ship (MPV) operator, will develop its irregular cargo business in Asia and Europe after Projects cooperation with Thailand's project and bulk cargo expert WeShip.  

Intermarine is affiliated to the Bremen-based Harren & Partner Group and has a diversified fleet of 82 ships, including heavy crane ships, bulk carriers, oil tankers, dock ships, container ships, tugboats, barges and offshore ships. Its group companies include SAL Heavy Lift, Jumbo-SAL-Alliance, SAL Engineering, Intermarine, Combi Lift, Harren Tankers and Harren Bulkers.


The American General & Grocery Shipping Company Intermarine, established in 1990, operates a flexible international fleet through its subsidiaries and a network of 20 offices around the world, provides maritime and maritime logistics services, regularly navigates in the Americas, West Africa, Europe, Asia and the Middle East, and provides quality services to Australia and other international ports.

After surviving Zeamarine bankruptcy in late 2019 and early 2020, Intermarine was relaunched after being acquired by SAL and industry legend Svend Anderson in late 2020. Starting with six multi-purpose ships (MPVs) at the end of 2020, the company now operates 25 ships and is in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and Odense, Denmark.


"Both the WeShip team and the Intermarine team have developed strong relationships with different but complementary customers around the world," Intermarine President Richard Seeg said. "As a merged company, both parties have new customers, but the goal is to provide all Intermarine customers-new and old customers-with a more complete global reach and a wider range of services. The two companies have worked well together on these projects, and we found that the two companies are very well matched in terms of customer service, customer base, market focus and performance level," Seeg added.


WeShip's customers include freight forwarders DHL, deugro and DSV; Engineering, Purchasing and Construction Companies (EPC) such as Berkard, Marubeni, Toshiba, Sumitomo, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Siemens; As well as energy companies such as Petronas Malaysia and PTT, Thailand's national oil company.

After's merger with WeShip, Intermarine will represent all cargo charter activities, while WeShip will continue to provide port agency and logistics services in Thailand and neighboring countries. WeShip's partner Torben Reinhard has become managing director of Intermarine Asia, while WeShip's partner Lars Steen Rasmussen has been appointed chief operating officer of Intermarine Denmark.
