Indonesia's state-owned port operator Pelindo and the Indonesian Investment Authority (INA) Dubai World Ports Corporation (DP WORLD) consortium signed the Beira Bay New Container Terminal (BNCT) investment and operation cooperation agreement.

On June 23,, the signing ceremony was held at the office of the Ministry of State-owned Enterprises in Jakarta, witnessed by the Minister of State-owned Enterprises, Erik Tohir. According to Eric, this cooperation is aimed at expanding the capacity of the Port of Beira Bay as a logistics gateway for Indonesia. According to President Jokowi's instructions, this cooperation is not only to accelerate the construction of the logistics ecosystem. He said: "As the president said, accelerating the construction of logistics ecosystems is the key to development. These systems are interconnected, such as airports, ports, highways, etc.

DP World is a Dubai-based global terminal operator with a network of shipping lines and 60 international ports across five continents. "In this acceleration of development, the central government has built something, private enterprises have built something, and there is cooperation between international partners like state-owned enterprises and DP world, which is of course the bridge of INA," said Eric." Arif Suhartono, managing director of the Pelindo, explained that in Pelindo,INA and DP World collaborated to operate a container terminal at the port of Beira Bay. At the same time, expand the transportation capacity of the existing container terminal at about 700000 TEUs. The cooperation will last 30 to 20 years and will increase the transport capacity of the existing container terminal from 700000 TEUs to 1.4 million TEUs. It is important to drive and create economic activity around the port of the Gulf of Fera. "

At the same time, INA CEO Rida Wirakusuma said that the consortium will invest about 0.4 billion US dollars in the port of Beira Bay to develop Beira Bay into a world-class port and ecosystem construction.

The consortium of Pelindo and INA is gradually planning direct routes from the port of Beirah to multi-population countries, and one of the countries being targeted is India. India was chosen as one of the priority targets because of its great potential and its strategic location as a gateway to South Asia. "So far, Indonesia and India's trade volume is also increasing.

As of now, shipments of Indonesian exports cannot be shipped directly to the destination country. Containers from Riau must first be shipped to the port of Beirah Bay, and then must first dock at a transshipment port abroad to merge with other containers. As a result, exporters have to bear expensive shipping costs and longer shipping times. In addition, Indonesia has to spend a lot of foreign exchange because most shipping services are paid for in foreign currency. The Port of Bela Bay has a great opportunity to provide direct dial service. In addition to working with global partners, the Bay of Bela will also grow by optimizing infrastructure, improving performance and implementing integrated information systems. It is expected that the loading and unloading efficiency of the port of Bela Bay will be improved and the ship docking time will be shortened. Thus, the Bay of Beirah has access to the global logistics ecosystem network.
