China's first world's largest Chinese ship group design

On June 27,, China's first 15000 cubic meters of liquefied natural gas (LNG) clean energy power trailing suction dredger, invested and built by China Communications Shanghai Navigation Bureau Co., Ltd. and developed and designed by the 78th Research Institute of China Shipbuilding Group Co., Ltd., held a docking ceremony in Shanghai Zhenhua heavy Industry Qidong Offshore Engineering Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Shanghai Zhenhua heavy Industry (Group) Co., Ltd. This marks the project construction work into an important production node.

The ship is designed with double stern fin steel welded streamlined hull, double oars, double rakes, double draft tubes, double machines, one towing two composite drives, dual fuels (light diesel oil and LNG), and is equipped with full deck, bow floor and bulb nose bow. The ship is about 155.7 meters long and 32.0 meters wide, with a draft of 8.0 meters and a draft of 9.9 meters. The maximum capacity of the mud tank is about 17000 square meters. The ship is the first domestic self-developed and the world's largest large-scale trailing suction dredger using LNG clean energy power system. The design concept is closely linked to the national strategic goal of "carbon peak, carbon neutral" and the construction demand of green port waterway. Compared with traditional fuel dredger, it is more energy-saving and environmentally friendly, and the operating economy is better.

Compared with similar ship types at home and abroad, the overall performance parameters such as load factor, capacity factor and navigation specific power of the ship's comprehensive energy efficiency and operational economy indicators have reached the leading domestic and world-class level. The LNG storage tank and corresponding gas supply system of the ship are reasonable in layout, safe and reliable, and the stern is equipped with binaural LNG storage tank. Compared with similar dredger types abroad, under the condition of limited layout space, the LNG tank capacity is larger, the self-sustaining endurance is higher, the gas supply pipeline is less, the cost is lower, the economy is better, the dangerous area is less, and the operation safety is higher.


The ship fully embodies the design concept of green energy saving, environmental protection, humanization and sustainable development. As the first environmentally friendly trailing suction dredger of a new generation, the ship takes LNG clean energy as the main power source, meets the International Maritime Organization (IMO)Tier III emission requirements in the gas mode, and meets the IMO Tier II requirements in the fuel mode; at the same time, nitrogen oxide emissions, sulfur oxide emissions, oil pollutant emissions, garbage emissions, ozone emissions, incineration emissions, harmful anti-pollution bottom system and other aspects can meet the China Classification Society (CCS) the latest version of the "Green Ecological Ship Code" related control requirements. In addition, the ship for the first time in the domestic put forward for the trailing suction dredger vibration and noise control requirements, cabin vibration and noise can meet the "VIB1" and "NOI1" specification requirements; the ship is also the first in the domestic trailing suction dredger stern shaft using polymer wear-resistant water lubricated bearings, to solve the stern shaft oil leakage problem, to achieve zero emissions.

the ship is not only equipped with conventional information systems of trailing suction dredger such as automatic tracing system, dredging control system and whole ship power management (PMS) system, but also the most advanced and intelligent "one-key dredging" and "combination of dredging and driving" systems in China, which will realize the "unmanned dredging" function under typical working conditions for the first time in China. At the same time, for the first time, the intelligent monitoring and control system of engine room and dredging energy efficiency management system, fuel storage tank and gas treatment system will be adopted for the trailing suction dredger. It is planned to realize integrated design, installation and control, so as to effectively improve the management level of the whole ship, improve construction efficiency and ensure the safety of navigation operations.

Since the design team of the 78th Institute undertook the project, with the strong support of relevant departments, leaders and experts, with the cooperation of the shipowner project team, combined with its valuable experience accumulated in the field of trailing suction dredger design, meticulous planning, Bold innovation, rigorous demonstration, ingenious design, overcoming many difficulties, basically completed the detailed design of the ship, laying a solid foundation for the smooth implementation of the project.
