Evergreen Shipping Spends 5 billion US Dollars to Order 24 Methanol-Powered Container Ships

Evergreen Shipping on July 11 through the stock exchange announced that it has to South Korea's Samsung Heavy Industries (Samsung Heavy Industries) and Japan Shipbuilding (Nihon Shipyard) ordered 24 16000TEU methanol-powered new Panamax container ships.

The announcement disclosed that the price of a single ship is between US $0.18 billion and US $0.21 billion, of which 16 will be built by Samsung Heavy Industries, with a total value of between US $2.88 billion and US $3.36 billion. The remaining eight ships will be built at Japan Shipyards for a total price of 14.4-1.68 billion US dollars.

According to the latest Alphaliner data, EVA Shipping ranks 6th among the top 100 global liner companies in terms of capacity, operating 213 ships, including 126 owned ships and 87 chartered ships, with a total cabin capacity of 1.674 million TEU. In addition, excluding the above latest orders, EVA Shipping also holds 48 ships, totaling 457000 TEU new shipbuilding orders.

These include 2 1900TEU,11 2300TEU and 11 3000TEU feeder ships under construction and will be delivered from 2024 to 2025.

At the same time, EVA Shipping is starting to receive 20 15000TEU container ships ordered by South Korea's Samsung Heavy Industries in 2021. The first ship "EVER MAX" has just been delivered and will be deployed in the Ocean Alliance AWE2 from Asia to the East of the United States.

In addition, EVA Shipping is also working with Taiwan Shipping International (CSBC) on the construction of a series of methanol-powered feeder vessels.

Evergreen Shipping's Second Quarter Revenue Grows 0.9 Percent

Evergreen Shipping achieved a cumulative operating income of NT $134.21 billion (approximately 4.39 billion US dollars) in the first half of 2023, a year-on-year decrease of 61.2 per cent.

In terms of quarterly revenue, Evergreen Shipping achieved operating income of NT $67.38 billion (about 2.21 billion US dollars) in the second quarter, a year-on-year decrease of 61.5 per cent and a quarter-on-quarter increase of 0.9 per cent.

In June 2023, Evergreen Shipping's operating income reached NT $22.13 billion (about 0.72 billion US dollars), a year-on-year decrease of 63.3 percent and a month-on-month decrease of 3.4 percent.

Yangming Shipping's second-quarter revenue fell 5.2 percent

Yangming Shipping achieved a cumulative operating income of NT $72 billion (about 2.36 billion US dollars) in the first half of 2023, a year-on-year decrease of 66.7 per cent.

In terms of quarterly revenue, Yangming Shipping achieved operating income of NT $35.05 billion (about 1.15 billion US dollars) in the second quarter, down 68.0 per cent from the same period last year and 5.2 per cent from the first quarter.


In June 2023, Yangming Shipping achieved operating income of NT $12.42 billion (about 0.4 billion US dollars), a year-on-year decrease of 67.9 percent and a month-on-month increase of 7.3 percent.

According to the latest Alphaliner data, Yangming Shipping ranks 9th among the world's top 100 liner companies in terms of capacity, operating 93 ships, including 51 self-owned ships and 42 chartered ships, with a total cabin capacity of 706000 TEU. In addition, Yangming Shipping holds 5 ships, totaling 77500TEU new shipbuilding orders.

Wanhai Shipping's second-quarter revenue fell 4.3 percent

Wanhai Shipping achieved a cumulative operating income of NT $50.03 billion (about 1.64 billion US dollars) in the first half of 2023, a year-on-year decrease of 67.9 percent.

In terms of quarterly revenue, Wanhai Shipping achieved operating income of NT $24.47 billion (about 0.8 billion US dollars) in the second quarter, down 67.4 per cent from the same period last year and 4.3 per cent from the first quarter.


In June 2023, Wanhai Shipping achieved operating income of NT $8.17 billion (about 0.26 billion US dollars), a year-on-year decrease of 67.7 per cent and a month-on-month decrease of 0.1 per cent.

According to the latest Alphaliner data, Wanhai Shipping ranks 11th among the top 100 global liner companies in terms of capacity, operating 124 ships, of which 112 are owned and 12 are chartered, with a total cabin of 434000 TEU. In addition, Wanhai Shipping also holds 29 ships, totaling 209000 TEU new shipbuilding orders.

Wanhai Shipping Held 3000TEU Series "Wanhai 332" and "Wanhai 333" Wheel Naming Ceremony

On July 10, Wanhai Shipping in Taiwan Shipping International (CSBC) held the "Wanhai 332" and "Wanhai 333" ship naming ceremony.


Wanhai Shipping stated that the "Wanhai 332" and "Wanhai 333" are the second and third ships in the 3000TEU container ship series built by Taiwan Ships International. The 3000TEU series container ship is designed to have a total length of 209.8 meters, a model width of 32.8 meters, a draft of 11.2 meters and a maximum cruising speed of 20.2 knots. This series of ships are equipped with energy-saving main engine, fully balanced twisted spherical rudder and pre-swirl device in front of the propeller. By virtue of installing energy-saving equipment, the ship's propulsion efficiency is promoted to achieve energy-saving and environmental protection effect, and reach the highest requirements of the third stage of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) ship energy efficiency design index (EEDI) in advance.

In terms of safety, the 3000TEU series container ship has also obtained the American Classification Society "SMART(INF)" intelligent ship class symbol certification. The deck is also equipped with a lashing bridge to withstand bad weather and enhance the stability of the ship, thereby providing the safest container transportation service.

Wanhai Shipping said that the "Wanhai 332" and "Wanhai 333" will be deployed on the Asian regional trade routes after delivery. Taiwan's three major liner companies monthly revenue trends
