Hapag-Lloyd (Hapag-Lloyd) will acquire North, Central and South American terminal stakes.


Hapag-Lloyd today successfully completed a 100 percent acquisition of SM SAAM's terminal business and related logistics services, based on an agreement announced in October 2022. The transaction was unconditionally approved by the relevant anti-monopoly authorities of all countries involved in the acquisition process.

The transaction includes interests in the terminals of Iquique, Antofagasta, San Antonio, San Vicente and Porto Coral (Chile) Everglades (USA/Florida), Mazatlan (Mexico), Buena Vista (Colombia), Guayaquil (Ecuador) and Caldera (Costa Rica) as well as related logistics services. The acquisition will further strengthen Hapag-Lloyd's core liner shipping business and help the company build a strong and attractive terminal portfolio.

new entity will be led by its CEO Mauricio Carrasco, Mauricio Carrasco has been the managing director of SAAM Group Terminals since 2020. Mauricio Carrasco is an experienced senior executive with long experience in Latin America and globally. He previously served as Senior Vice President of CSAV and Senior Director of Hapag-Lloyd with responsibility for the Americas, China, Dubai and India. Hapag-Lloyd former Latin American senior director of commercial management, Rodolfo Diaz, will join him as chief financial officer.

Hapag-Lloth has continuously expanded its participation in the terminal sector and holds stakes in Wilhelmshaven Container Terminal, Hamburg Container Terminal Altenwerder, Italian Spinelli Group, India's jm Baxi Ports and Logistics Limited, Tangier TC3 Terminal and Egypt's Damietta Terminal 2, which is currently under construction.
