MSC decided: no more!

Recently, the Mediterranean shipping line (MSC) withdrew the acquisition of Italy Livorno port (Livorno)Darsena Toscane terminal decision.


It is reported that in January this year, MSC's terminal operator Terminal Investment Limited(TIL) announced the acquisition of Darsena Toscane terminal 100 per cent of the shares, the amount of which was not disclosed.

At that time, there were media reports that once the acquisition was completed, it would double MSC's influence in Livorno port.

, however, according to the latest news, the deal may have fallen apart. Some media speculate that obstacles from regulators are the most likely reason for MSC's withdrawal.

In response, Livorno Mayor Luca Salvetti said: "MSC withdrawal will not affect the port development strategy, Darsena the Toscane terminal continues to operate efficiently."

It is understood that the Darsena Toscana terminal in 1997 began operation, is Italy's well-known refrigerated cargo terminal, 2022 handling containers 467,938TEU.

Despite the withdrawal of the Italian terminal acquisition, but MSC investment pace did not stop.

In August of this year, MSC just announced the acquisition of Milan-based air cargo company AlisCargo Airlines's majority stake, and plans to early next year to acquire 100 percent of the equity, in order to enhance the air cargo field strength.
