BCI jumped 30% this week!

On September 22,, BDI rose 24 points to 1593. This week the BDI is up 212 points or 15.4 percent.

The Capesize Index BCI rose 76 to 2083. This week BCI is up 481 points or 30.0 percent.

The spot market for capesize bulk carriers improved sharply as coal from East Australia poured into southern China in October, brokers said. On Friday, the average daily rent for the spot 5TC of capesize ships closed at $17274, the highest level in nearly three months.


Fearnleys said in its latest weekly report that from late September to early October, the business volume of C5 routes, East Australia and the Pacific region increased healthily, which further strengthened the market's optimism. Trading volume on the C5 route gradually decreased in mid-week, while trading volume in East Australia remained high. Trading volumes in South Africa and India continued to remain at reasonable levels in early October. The C3 route from Brazil to China got off to a lackluster start to the week, but mid-October trading activity began to pick up.

BRS wrote in its weekly report: "The week started quite strongly. In October, coal volumes from East Australia to South China increased significantly. This situation seems likely to continue for one to two months."

Newcastle-type bulk carrier time charter 1 year rental increased by about 970 US dollars to about 19420 US dollars/day; ECO 180K Capesize ship time charter 1 year rental of about 15420 US dollars/day.


The Panamanian Ship Index BPI fell 11 points to 1685. This week BPI is up 29 points or 1.8 percent.

The average daily rent for BPI-82 this Friday closed at $15164. The one-year charter of the Calsam ship increases by about US $300 to about US $14100/day, and the one-year charter of the Panama ship is about US $12400/day.

The Super Smart Boat Index BSI rose 5 to 1355. This week BSI is up 134 points or 11.0 per cent.

This Friday BSI-58 average daily rent reported at 14900 dollars or more.

The Handy Boat Index BHSI rose 1 point to 670. This week BHSI is up 36 points or 5.7 per cent.
