According to the latest data released by Alphaliner, as of May 3, the number of container ships in operation in the world totaled 6593, with a total capacity of 2.6873 million TEU, equivalent to 0.321 billion dwt. Among them, the total capacity of the top three liner companies accounted for 46.52 of the global market.
The world's top three liner companies are Mediterranean Shipping (4.9026 million TEU, 18.24 per cent), Maersk Shipping (4.1569 million TEU, 15.47 per cent) and Dafei Shipping (3.4413 million TEU, 12.81 per cent).
Alphaliner pointed out that COSCO Shipping Group, Hapg-Lloyd, Evergreen Shipping, Ocean Network Shipping (ONE), Modern Merchant Shipping, Yangming Shipping and Yixing Shipping ranked 4th and 10th in terms of capacity. The top 7 of them all have more than 1.5 million TEU.
Ranked 11th to 20th are: Wanhai Shipping, Taiping Shipping, Haifeng International, Koryo Shipping (KMTC), X-Press Feeders Group, Zhonggu Shipping, Iran Air China (IRISL), UniFeeder, Sea Lead Shipping and Changjin Merchant Shipping.
Among the mainland liner companies on the list, COSCO Shipping ranked 4th, Haifeng International ranked 13th, Zhonggu Xinliang Shipping ranked 16th, Antong Holdings (Quanzhou Ansheng Shipping) ranked 21st, Ningbo Ocean Shipping ranked 29th, Shanghai Jinjiang Shipping ranked 33rd, Sinotrans Shipping ranked 34th, Zhonglian Shipping ranked 35th, Tangshan Port Hede Shipping ranked 44th, Yangpu Xinyuan Shipping ranked 47th, taicang Port is ranked 55th in container shipping, Dalian Xinfeng Shipping is ranked 56th, Tianjin Datong Shipping is ranked 80th, and Guangxi Hongxiang Shipping is ranked 91st.
