Recently, the World Bank, Standard & Poor's and IHS Markit jointly launched the latest issue of "The Container Port Performace Index 2022" Global Container Port Efficiency Index (CPPI) officially released, the world's 348 container ports all into the CPPI assessment scope.

China's ports overall performance in the right way, but Shenzhen and Qingdao two port rankings make people surprised!

The data shows: In the global port performance ranking, Shanghai Yangshan Port in the world's 348 container ports stand out and rank first, ranking within a year to rise three levels, from the world's fourth to the top in 2021; Ningbo Port's global old 7. Guangzhou Port The world's ninth ranking has not changed for two years!

However, as the country's third largest container port, Shenzhen Port, its several major ports ranked unsatisfactory, not only did not enter the TOP10, individual ports bottomed out, seriously left behind!

Among Shenzhen's ports: Shekou Port Ranks 13th; Mawan Port Row 14; Chiwan Port Row 24; Yantian Port Row 53; Dachan Bay Port Row 63.

In 2022, there are 7 Chinese ports in the top 20 of the global container port performance ranking, namely Shanghai Yangshan Port (1), Ningbo Port (7), Guangzhou Port (9), Hong Kong Port (11), Shenzhen Shekou Port (13), Shenzhen Mawan Port (14) and Tianjin Port (20); Among them, Hong Kong Port has soared from 50th in 2021 to 11th.

In addition, it is worth noting that the top 50 only one U.S. port-Wilmington Port (Wilmington) ranked 44th;

However, the two well-known ports in the United States and West-Los Angeles Port and Long Beach Port-have been at the bottom of the global container port performance ranking for three consecutive years. In 2022, Los Angeles Port and Long Beach Port will be ranked 336 (bottom 13) and 346 (bottom 3) respectively. In the 2021 port performance ranking, the two major ports occupy the penultimate and penultimate positions respectively!

It is reported that the global container port efficiency index (CPPI) is a data-based comparable index, according to the port's actual ship berthing number, type, waiting and operating time (from the ship arrived at the port to complete the exchange of goods and leave the berth time) and other factors to measure the port operating efficiency, the world's 348 container ports were ranked.

CPPI can optimize port operations to reduce delays, save costs and reduce carbon emissions, and use macro data to make recommendations for port improvements for the benefit of global trade's key stakeholders, including governments, shipping companies, port and terminal operators, shippers, logistics companies and consumers.

According to data, global durable goods sales rebounded in the second half of 2020, especially in the United States, where total container demand increased significantly. This is consistent with the ongoing epidemic blockade policy, which has led to severe port congestion.

In 2021, this port congestion is still manifesting itself, peaking in the third quarter of 2021, and until the third quarter of 2022, the global average arrival time per port call remains above 11 hours.

freight volumes were reduced in the fourth quarter of 2022, many ports were able to clear backlogs and reduce average arrival times to close to 10 hours per port. The global average port arrival time is expected to continue to decline in 2023 to pre-2021 levels.

the data show that the operation of ports around the world has improved significantly after the unprecedented disruption caused by the outbreak. Globally, ports are continuing to clear backlogs, but there is still additional room for efficiency. The data shows that further digitalization of port processes and modernization of port infrastructure will improve productivity, customer service and reduce carbon emissions.
