A container ship fire spread to the stern stack of containers
UTC time on June 23 at about 0850, located in Brazil Paranagua about 50 nautical miles east, Maersk's 5568TEU capacity named "MONTE SARMIENTO" container ship engine room fire. The crew activated the carbon dioxide firefighting system, but the fire reportedly spread to one or more containers stacked at the stern of the ship.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Despite the efforts of the crew, the fire was only partially extinguished, resulting in a secondary fire in the aft container. Thankfully, so far no injuries have been reported.
In order to provide support, the tanker JANE S is on standby to assist the "MONTE SARMIENTO" and its 30-member crew. As a precaution, some of the crew abandoned the ship. Local authorities and maritime rescue teams have mobilized to contain the fire and mitigate potential environmental damage.
