A container ship fire spread to the stern stack of containers

UTC time on June 23 at about 0850, located in Brazil Paranagua about 50 nautical miles east, Maersk's 5568TEU capacity named "MONTE SARMIENTO" container ship engine room fire. The crew activated the carbon dioxide firefighting system, but the fire reportedly spread to one or more containers stacked at the stern of the ship.

As of 19:10 UTC on the same day, the fire may still be ongoing and the ship is drifting, with at least one tugboat and naval vessel nearby. AIS is on. At the time of the incident, "MONTE SARMIENTO" was sailing from Santos to Itaboa.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Despite the efforts of the crew, the fire was only partially extinguished, resulting in a secondary fire in the aft container. Thankfully, so far no injuries have been reported.

In order to provide support, the tanker JANE S is on standby to assist the "MONTE SARMIENTO" and its 30-member crew. As a precaution, some of the crew abandoned the ship. Local authorities and maritime rescue teams have mobilized to contain the fire and mitigate potential environmental damage.

The container ship "MONTE SARMIENTO", IMO 9283227, dwt 71438, capacity 5568TEU, was built in 2005, flies the Brazilian flag and is managed by the ALIANCA NAVEGACAO.

At the time of the incident, the container ship "MONTE SARMIENTO" was carrying out the ALCT 2 voyage of "HAMBURG SÜD", involving several shipping companies, including ALIANÇA, HAMBURG SÜD, HAPAG-LLOYD, MAERSK, MCC, SEAGO, SEALAND and ZIM. In the past month, the port of affiliation is as follows:

A bulk carrier was boarded by armed pirates and the cash in the safe was robbed.

According to the monitoring of the Gulf of Guinea piracy intelligence agency MDAT-GoG report, a few days ago, a ship moored in Guinea Conakry anchorage south of 16 nautical miles of ships were pirates boarded.

According to foreign media Splash, citing maritime security consultant Ambrey's information report, the affected ship is Suisse Atlantique's 2021 Ultrmax-type bulk carrier "Nyon".

Ambrey said the incident lasted about 30 minutes. During the robbery by the pirates, some of the crew members were attacked and slightly injured. At the same time, there were three ships within three nautical miles of the attack site, but they were not affected.

"Nyon" steamer owner Suisse Atlantique also confirmed the incident, saying the ship was boarded by some armed criminals at around 3.30am local time. However, the company stressed that the pirates only took some of the ship and crew's belongings, all the crew have been found, there are no reports of any injuries, and the ship's ability to operate has not been affected.
