On the morning of July 11, 2023, in a festive and warm atmosphere, the construction ceremony of the first 14000TEU container ship of Taiping Shipping was successfully held at Jiangnan Shipyard. Group CEO Gao Ruize (Lars Kastrup) attended the ceremony to celebrate this important milestone with representatives of American Bureau of Shipping and Jiangnan Shipyard. Gao Ruize and Hu Hongyu, deputy general manager of Jiangnan Shipbuilding, pressed the ignition switch of steel plate cutting together, and then the three parties signed the commencement documents. Gu Youyi, Managing Director of Taiping Shipping China, and Wu Zhonghan, General Manager of Taiping Shipping Fleet, attended the ceremony.
Gao Ruize delivered an enthusiastic speech at the groundbreaking ceremony. He said: "The start of the construction of the new ship marks the reopening of the fleet renewal and fleet growth plan of Taiping Shipping." Being the first LNG dual-fuel container ship by Taiping Shipping demonstrates our commitment to sustainability and our vision for a greener and cleaner future. Together with three sister ships, she will form part of our fleet decarbonisation strategy to help us achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. This batch of 14000 TEU LNG dual-fuel container ships was announced by Taiping Shipping in March 2022 to sign a contract with Jiangnan Shipbuilding. All four ships will be equipped with ammonia fuel pre-tanks and will be gradually delivered from the second half of 2024 to the first half of 2025, when they will become the largest ships in the Taiping shipping fleet.
In July 2022, Taiping Shipping will place an order for four more 8000TEU LNG dual-fuel container ships. The new ships will be built by the private Yangtze River Shipping Industry and are scheduled to be gradually delivered in 2025.
